HIV Virus Poem

some say it was an attempt to synthesize the elements
able to go on outside of us, to get rid of those
who mean us harm, because they are evil

others say it's a punishment for the sins
we're given a free choice to commit,
coming from the same source

it seems to be neither: to be warm and fed,
to see a happy and healthy offspring:
these are understandable motives of

the new life finding its way into our own,
lucking out in its eternal quest for paradise
promised to us, given to them
